*Note: This article addresses the VidFleet in-vehicle cameras, which look like this.
For questions regarding camera type, please contact GPS Trackit.
What is Camera Management?
Camera Management includes the Setup and Pairing settings, which can be adjusted as needed to enhance the performance of VidFleet In-Vehicle Cameras. Proper Camera Management is essential for ensuring these cameras are correctly configured and paired, delivering optimal results. By personalizing these settings, users can improve functionality, increase reliability, and tailor the cameras to specific operational requirements, maximizing their utility and effectiveness.
Where is Camera Management Located?
Camera Management access is permission dependent and located within the Manage tab.
What Are the Capabilities of Camera Management?
Camera Setup
A key advantage of VidFleet cameras is the Audible In-Cab Coaching they provide to drivers. As different events are detected, drivers receive automatic vocal warnings, giving them the chance to improve their performance. Camera Setup allows Users to adjust which events will trigger the warnings along with the volume at which these warnings are heard.
To manage the Setup options, locate the camera in question on the list and click the quick menu button, then select Camera Set up.
*Note: to ensure the changes take effect, they must be input while the vehicle ignition is OFF.
A drawer with four buttons will now appear to the right hand side. By default the General button will be selected. Two elements can be adjusted within General:
The Vehicle Class dropdown is used to set the vehicle type, as this will determine the trigger point for various events.
The Volume of the In-Cab Audio can be adjusted here as well.
All models of VidFleet cameras are capable of detecting items listed within the Events section.
The Trigger toggle determines if the Event is to be captured while Audio controls whether or not the In-Cab Coaching will be heard.
*Note: Turning the Event toggle to 'Off' will exclude the Event from being considered in Behavior calculations.
Within the DMS and ADAS section, additional Events will be available depending on the camera model purchased. To confirm camera types or discuss upgrades, please contact GPS Trackit.
Certain Events contain a Warning setting, in addition to the Trigger and Audio options. When enabled the Warning gives the Driver a heads up that an Event is about to be captured and gives them the opportunity to correct their behavior.
The Camera Setup options can also be managed in bulk, through the quick menu button in the upper left corner.
First, select the device model using the dropdown menu to the right.
Next choose the cameras to receive the new configuration.
As described above, input the chosen configurations such as volume control and enabling/disabling various events.
The final step is to look over the Summary section to review the choices, then save.
Camera Pairing
If choosing to utilize separate GPS and VidFleet Camera units, two pieces of hardware will go into each vehicle and must be paired together: the GPS tracking unit and the camera. If utilizing the Camera As GPS option, pairing will NOT be required.
Without pairing them together, two unit entries would then be seen on the software platform both of which represent one vehicle, which might cause some confusion. Pairing eliminates this problem.
Pairing a GPS unit to a camera is done by GPS Trackit before a camera is ever shipped. Both GPS devices and cameras have serial numbers, which are used for the pairing.
To see which GPS unit is paired to which Camera, go to the Manage Tab and Unit Settings. Find the ‘ESN’ and ‘Linked Devices’ columns. This may require scrolling to the right.
ESN is the serial number for the GPS Units and Linked Device is the serial number for the Cameras. If no number appears in the Linked Device column, then no camera is linked to the corresponding GPS Unit.
Columns within both Unit Settings and Status can be dragged and dropped to customize the layout. Placing Unit, ESN and Linked Device next to each other may be helpful during installation.
Paired devices must be kept together. There’s no problem moving them from one vehicle to another if tracking needs to change. However the two equipment pieces must move together. Otherwise the software is trying to match the GPS tracking from one vehicle to the camera data from another.
Pairings can be adjusted as needed via Camera Management.
Hover the mouse over the camera in question to produce the quick menu button, then select Edit Camera Pairing.
A drop down menu will appear to the right, from which the appropriate GPS Unit can be selected.
For accounts with paired units, the Stopped Reporting Alert will provide individual trigger thresholds for both the GPS unit and the Camera. The default offline threshold for GPS Units is 1 hour. The default offline threshold for Cameras is 8 hours. Both thresholds are adjustable as needed.
Separate thresholds are used to ensure that in the event of a problem developing with one piece of hardware but not the other, the notification is still sent to the appropriate Contact and the problem is still identified for resolution.
Please be aware that each GPS unit and camera have time zone settings. When a time zone is entered for the GPS unit, the time zone for the paired Camera will be automatically updated to match. Non-matching time zones will cause problems when viewing and requesting video clips.
