*Note: This article addresses the VidFleet in-vehicle cameras, which look like this.
For questions regarding camera type, please Contact GPS Trackit.
One of the benefits of the VidFleet cameras is the audible in-cab coaching provided to drivers. As various events are detected the drivers will automatically hear vocal reminders and warnings, providing them the opportunity to improve their performance. Please be aware that while the cameras will ‘talk’ to the driver, they do NOT capture audio. Drivers can be assured that their speech is not being recorded.
In-cab coaching is enabled by default and in English. Coaching can be enabled or disabled as needed via Camera Management along with making volume adjustments. To switch the language to Spanish please Contact GPS Trackit.
For AI model cameras GPS Trackit also includes Driver Safety Assistance. DSA provides an audible warning to the driver before the event is actually captured and reported to the platform, allowing the driver time to correct the behavior and improve their vehicle management.
Driver Safety Assistance works as follows:
-
The AI Camera detects one of the following events:
- Cell Phone Use
- Distracted Driving
- Close Following
- No Seatbelt
- Tailgating
- An in-cab audible alert is triggered for the driver. For example: Chime, “Cell Phone Warning”.
- DSA provides a time window of a few seconds for the driver to self-correct
- If no corrective action is taken, the event will be uploaded and the driver will be alerted in the cabin. For example: Chime, “Cell Phone Violation”.
DSA benefits both Drivers and Fleet Administrators alike. Drivers will have the ability to modify their behavior in real-time to avoid administrative escalation. The reduction in video clips will save Fleet Administrators time in their reviews. For both, a healthy balance of driver accountability is created along with reinforcing a culture of safe driver coaching.
