What Are the Unit Settings?
Unit Settings are the options you use to manage and customize each device on your GPS Trackit Fleet cloud software. Unit Settings are crucial for several reasons including: customization and identification, accurate tracking and reporting, driver and tag management along with vehicle information and time zone configuration.
Where Are the Unit Settings?
Unit Settings can be accessed under the Manage Tab.
What Can Be Done With Unit Settings?
Here, you can modify the Unit Label (device name), update the device's Driver, adjust Tag assignments, set the starting Odometer and engine run time, configure the time zone, and review vehicle information. This section displays a list of all active devices on your account. To add or remove devices from this list (and subsequently from Billing), you must contact GPS Trackit, as units are either purchased or deactivated through their service.
To make desired edits, please click on the unit in question. A series of buttons and input fields will appear to the right: Unit, VIN, MPG and Notes. Begin with the Unit button.
A new unit will always initially display their serial number in the Unit Label and Icon Type field. It’s acting as a placeholder, as this field cannot be left blank. The device serial number is on the physical unit. Please use this to keep track of which device is attached to which vehicle. Once unit installations are complete, we recommend naming the device after the vehicle in which it has been installed.
When looking at the Maps tab, the Unit location is indicated by a color coded arrow which points in the current direction of travel. This icon can be customized if desired using the Vehicle Status feature. Having selected and labeled the chosen icons in Vehicle Status, the Custom Toggle button is then used to apply the chosen icon to the vehicle in question.
Units that are plugged into the vehicle OBD II port can be set to read the speed and mileage from the vehicle via the port. Otherwise these items are automatically calculated via GPS. To enable either, toggle the ECU buttons for Speed and Odometer from gray to green. For wired install units or those plug-ins that will not use ECU, make a note of the vehicle’s current mileage. It will need to be entered into the Dash Reading field to ensure accurate calculations.
The ECU option is also available to track Engine Hours if desired. However, whether tracking the Engine Hours via ECU or GPS, a starting point must be manually entered into the Actual field.
All three ECU options can be enabled at once using the ECU button.
The Driver field is to indicate which Driver is currently using the vehicle. Drivers are created in the Drivers section of the Manage tab. Make sure to set the unit time zone for accurate readings.
Use the VIN button to input the VIN. A unit that plugs into the vehicle’s OBD II port may automatically populate this field, otherwise it can be manually provided. Fields are also available for the Make, Model, Year and Engine Liter information.
The MPG button is to record the expected mileage for the vehicle, both Highway and City.
Use the Notes button to record any notes needed regarding the unit, such as the previous vehicles this unit may have been used for.
Be sure to Save all settings
Just like the Status tab, the Unit list can be filtered by Tags. To do so, click on the Tags button at the top of the page which will then sort the list using Tags. Use the filter in the upper right corner to control which Tags are visible and which are hidden. This filter also allows for sorting by Event and Last Reported.
Clicking on a column header will change how the list is ordered.
The Vehicle Overview button is found to the left of each entry. When pressed, detailed tracking data will be displayed for review including the Last Location, Map position and Trail view options.
