*Note: This article addresses the VidFleet in-vehicle cameras, which look like this.
If the camera looks different, please switch to Xirgo. For questions regarding camera type, please contact GPS Trackit.
What is Live View?
Live View provides real-time video footage of the road, surroundings, or vehicle interior, depending on the camera’s placement and installation angles. Cameras provide live streaming to both the mobile app AND the Cloud software platform, ensuring real-time tracking and safety insights.
Why Does Live View Matter?
Live View is useful because it provides real-time insight into vehicle activity, enhancing safety, security, and operational efficiency. It allows fleet managers to monitor road conditions, passenger behavior, and potential hazards as they happen. For businesses, Live View improves fleet tracking, driver accountability, and customer service, ensuring smoother operations and quicker response times.
How Is Live View Accessed?
Access to the camera’s live video stream is located in the Maps tab and can be tapped into at any time. The livestream displays exactly what the camera is seeing at that moment. To access the live view, the unit’s info box must be opened on the map. To do so either click on the unit from the Vehicle List to the right under Map Utilities.
Or on the map, click directly on the unit’s icon. Either option will produce the info box. Camera access will be through the camera icon at the bottom of the box.
Click on the camera. The first item that comes up is the snapshot. The snapshot is taken every 10 minutes or so when the engine is running. The most recent snapshot will be displayed here.
The Snapshots are also visible when utilizing the Vehicle Trail function.
Use the Live button to access the camera feed. When Live is clicked, the system sends an SMS message to the camera to wake it up. This will take a few minutes to process. Please be aware that cell coverage in the area can have an effect on the wake up process, which can be checked in the upper left corner via the signal strength indicator.
*Note: If the Starter Disable Relay is in use (meaning the starter has been disabled) the Live Stream will not be available.
This is a live stream, showing views both in front of the vehicle and inside it. The live stream will run for a minute or so, then will have to be refreshed. This is completely normal for the camera.
The camera view can be blown up to full screen. Use this button in the lower right corner. When finished with full screen click the same button to exit.
By default, VidFleet cameras provide both external and internal views of the vehicle. On request, GPS Trackit can ‘mask’ the interior view of the vehicle, limiting the camera to only vehicle exteriors. To enable masking, please contact GPS Trackit.
Live view is also available on the mobile app. The mobile app is called GPS Trackit Cloud and is available as a free download for both Android and Apple devices.
To access the live view from the mobile app, login and tap on the unit in question. Camera units will have a green button called Video. Tap Video to wake up the camera and view the livestream.
