What Are Vehicle Trails?
Vehicle Trails are a visual representation of the historical tracking data produced by the GPS tracking units. Users can customize the display of the Vehicle Trail by adjusting time ranges, filtering specific types of events (e.g., drives, stops), and exporting data for further analysis or reporting.
Why Are Vehicle Trails Valuable?
Vehicle Trails provide historical route visualization, allowing users to see the path taken by the vehicle over a specific period. Visualizing tracking data also allows users to identify detours, review operational efficiency and contribute to behavior analysis.
How Do Vehicle Trails Work?
Vehicle trails are found in the Maps tab, under Map Utilities on the right hand side.
Begin by selecting the desired vehicle, then specify the desired date range and choose the event type for the trail line (such as Drive, Stops, etc.). Once the Get Trail button has been clicked, the line will be displayed on the screen.
When displayed, the trail will initially show the first 100 readings. The controls along the bottom allow the number of visible readings to be increased.
Click the View Vehicle Trail Table button to access a list of events along the trail line. Selecting a specific reading will center the map on that location. Data export is available should the information need to be saved offline or printed up.
Use the Close Vehicle Trail Table button to clear the readings list.
Landmarks can be created directly from the entries on the Vehicle Trail table. When creating a Landmark in this manner, only the circle option will be available for the shape. If a square or polygon is required, the Landmark must be created via the standard method.
As with all Landmarks, the icon and color are customizable.
A Name and Tag will need to be entered. However no address is required. The Latitude and Longitude will automatically populate.
Make sure the radius has been set properly before saving.
If utilizing the VidFleet In-Vehicle Cameras, the snapshot with the timestamp closest to that of the reading will be displayed when the reading is selected.
Settings for the trail line are accessed through the gear icon. Landmark flags can be made visible here, along with adding or removing waypoint numbers and a connecting line. To exit the Vehicle Trails, click Close Vehicle Trail Settings.
To clear the trail line from the map, just click on the ‘back’ button.
