What Are Behavior Settings?
Within Behavior, the Risk Factor for each Unit and Driver is calculated by assigning penalty points for Violations. The total points are then divided by the number of days in the selected date range to determine the Risk Factor. Behavior settings define which Violations are monitored and the corresponding point values for each.
*Note: Definitions for the various Violations can be found in the Help Center.
Why Are Custom Settings Important?
Custom Behavior Settings are important because they allow each organization to tailor the monitoring and scoring of driver and unit behaviors to align with their specific goals, policies, and risk priorities. By customizing which violations are tracked and assigning appropriate penalty points, businesses can focus on safety behaviors that are most critical to their operations. This flexibility ensures that the Risk Factor calculation accurately reflects the organization's unique needs and helps drive targeted improvements.
How Are Customizations Input?
Behavior Settings are found within the Manage tab and access to them is permission dependent.
The first step is to define the Risk Factors. Every vehicle and driver falls into one of three categories: Low Risk in green, Medium Risk in yellow and High Risk in red. The definition for each category is set by adjusting the sliders. In the configuration seen here, Low Risk is defined as 10 or less. Medium Risk is 11 to 25 and High Risk is more than 25. When viewing the Behavior tab this color coding will carry over.
As stated above, the Risk Factors are calculated using points, which are accumulated by a Unit or Driver committing the chosen safety violations. Each violation is scored on a scale of 0 to 10. A 0 setting means that the violation carries no penalty. No matter how many times the violation is committed, the Risk Factors won’t be affected. A setting of 10 would be the opposite. This is the heaviest penalty possible and will have a significant impact on the score.
When accounts are created, a default set of Violations will automatically appear in the Behavior Settings. Additional Violations can be selected via the plus (+) button on the upper left corner.
After clicking the Plus (+) button, new fields will appear to the right. Use the Metric field to select the exact violation and move the slider to set the number of Risk Points. Press Add to save.
Violations can be edited or deleted at any time by clicking the quick menu button. It will appear when the mouse is hovered over the entry.
Certain violations are only available when utilizing specific tracking hardware. For information regarding upgrades please Contact GPS Trackit.
