One of the standard features provided by GPS Trackit is the ability to assign Drivers to Units within the software platform. Use of Driver Assignment has a variety of benefits. Alerts can be sent directly to the Drivers, reports can show Driver specific activity, Behavior analytics can focus on people not vehicles and the list goes on.
The ID Reader feature allows Drivers to control their own vehicle assignment via key fob, eliminating the need for someone with platform access to always be aware of assignment changes AND to input those changes they happen.
Key Fobs can be utilized via two different configurations: Non ID Reader or ID Reader.
Non ID Reader
The Non ID Reader option requires that each Driver be issued a Key Fob. Bluetooth enabled Geometris tracking devices are capable of detecting the presence of the Key Fob and upon an Ignition On event, the Cloud software will automatically update to show the Driver as assigned to the vehicle in question. Upon Ignition Off, the Driver name will be automatically unassigned.
*Note: The Non ID Reader option not available for hardwire devices. Hardwire devices require the ID Reader option outlined below.
Driver ID Tags are assigned within the Manage tab, under Key Fobs.
When utilizing the Non ID Reader option, the Key Fobs are pre-loaded onto the account platform when the order is processed. Each fob is marked with a hex number, which is listed in the Key Fob column.
To assign the fob to a Driver, hover to produce the quick menu button and select ‘Edit’.
Then select the Driver on the dropdown menu and press Save.
Fob assignments can be changed as needed to accommodate personnel changes.
ID Reader
The ID readers are accessories attached to certain wired installation tracking units. The Drivers are each issued a key fob, which they scan over the reader every time they turn on the engine. This in turn updates the driver assignments on the vehicle platform without someone having to manually update the assignment.
Because this feature requires that an additional hardware piece be attached to the GPS unit, it is not available for units that plug into the vehicle. ID Readers can only be used in conjunction with hardwired tracking devices.
ID Readers and Key Fobs are set up in the Manage Tab, under Key Fobs.
Before getting started entering Key Fobs into the system, the Driver list must first be input via the Manage tab.
To input key fobs, go to Key Fobs in the Manage tab. Then click the plus button in the upper left corner.
Each fob is engraved with a 16 character individual Hex number. Please reference the image below to understand the layout.
Enter the number into the Key Fob field. Then use the Driver field to select the person who will be using the fob. Make sure to save.
Key fobs can be reassigned at any time to a new Driver. Find the existing Key fob on the list and hover over to produce a 3-dot button. Click the button to see the Edit and Delete options.
Key fobs must be assigned to a Driver. There is no option for a key fob to be ‘unassigned.’ If the driver has left the company and the key fob hasn’t been reassigned, make sure to remove it from circulation. Click the checkbox to the left of the Key Fob, then the trashcan icon at the top of the page.
Key fobs can be returned to use at any time. Just re-enter them back into the software using the step above.
