What is the ETA Feature?
ETA allows a GPS Trackit User to calculate the estimated time of arrival for a vehicle and to quickly transmit that information to their customers, improving communication time and overall customer satisfaction. For example, a HVAC company might use this feature to inform their customer when the service technician will arrive at the service location.
Why Use ETA?
In this fast paced world, customers and clients are rightly concerned with when to expect your employee’s arrival. ETA allows you to email or text them this information which they can then monitor in real time, eliminating the need for time consuming back-and-forth communications to coordinate drivers and customers.
How Does ETA Work?
ETA allows a GPS Trackit user to calculate the estimated time of arrival for a vehicle and to send that information to anyone who needs it. For example, a HVAC company can inform their customer when the service technician will arrive.
ETA is accessed via the Maps tab, on the right hand side under Map Utilities. The information is sent out as a clickable link, via either email or text message. These links can be scheduled in advance, edited once sent and canceled if needed.
New entries are created by clicking the + button.
First, input the Vehicle of interest via the Choose Vehicle field.
If the chosen Vehicle includes a VidFleet camera, the option to include a snapshot in the link will appear. As snapshots are updated every 10 minutes when the ignition is on, the most recently taken snapshot will always be attached to the link.
Then set the Destination. This can be an address, a map click or a previously created Landmark.
Once the Destination has been selected, the route will appear on the map along with the estimated travel time and mileage.
Now choose the Recipients for the information. These can be email addresses, phone numbers or Contacts. If using a phone number, be sure to select the country code. Multiple recipients can be selected. Be sure to hit ‘Add Recipient’ after every entry.
The final fields define the active period for the link once sent.
The Start field will default to the current date and time, meaning the link will be sent to the recipients once ‘Save’ is pressed. This date can be set ahead, therefore triggering the link at a future date and time.
The link will expire upon the designated End time or once the vehicle arrives at the location.
Once all information has been entered, hit ‘Save’.
The recipients will simply need to click the link to view the progress of the vehicle towards the destination.
The ETA link does not provide the recipients with access to the GPS Trackit software platform. The Vehicle Name and Driver (if assigned) will be visible.
Active ETA links can be viewed here.
ETA links scheduled for future use are available here.
The link can be altered or deleted as needed. Hover the mouse and click the click menu button that then appears.
Expired and Completed ETA links are also accessible as needed, if history needs to be reviewed.
Entries on the list can be deleted as needed, in order to prevent it from becoming too unwieldy.
Please be aware that ETA links triggered as part of a Route will not display on this list. To view Route linked ETA information, please visit the Route in question.
