The Sleeper Berth provision allows certain drivers (as determined by the FMCSA) to split their 10-hour off-duty period when certain requirements have been met.
To simply log time in Sleeper status, press the appropriate button on the main operations screen. This works when the entire required off duty time will be taken in Sleeper status.
However some drivers prefer to split their sleeper time rather than taking it all at once. The FMCSA does allow this within certain guidelines. However GPS Trackit does not currently have a specific option for Split Sleeper. Instead the Sleeper and Off Duty status must be combined, so that the time taken in each one during the shift adds up to the correct amount of off duty time.
Please be aware that when the long split is taken in Sleeper first, those hours will be gained back after completion. However this does not work in reverse. Taking the short split in Off Duty will not increase the available hours on the shift clock. In the event of an error, log edits have a limited capacity to resolve the issue. Drivers must take care to ensure familiarity with the regulations and set their statuses accordingly to maintain compliance.
Drivers are responsible for tracking their Off Duty and Sleeper time to ensure that the hours tally correctly to meet the FMCSA regulations regarding rest time and shift resets. It is also the responsibility of the Driver to understand the amount of time allowed for each status in order to avoid a violation.
GPS Trackit cannot assist with regulatory questions or input any log edits. Queries regarding status split proportions (such as 8/2 versus 7/3) should be researched directly with the FMCSA.
