What is the Request Video Function?
When the camera detects specific events, the software automatically clips these moments and sends them to the video tab for easy review. But what if footage is needed for an event that wasn’t automatically clipped? For instance, if a fleet manager receives a complaint about a vehicle at a particular time yesterday, the Request Video button allows them to retrieve the exact footage they need!
Why is Request Video Important?
This feature is crucial because it provides fleet managers with flexibility and control over video review. Automatic clipping captures specific, pre-set events, which helps streamline footage management. However, incidents may arise that don’t fit those pre-set triggers, like customer complaints or unexpected events. Request Video fills this gap by allowing managers to retrieve specific footage. This ensures they aren’t restricted to only pre-clipped moments, enhancing their ability to respond to issues, investigate incidents thoroughly, and maintain high operational and service standards.
How is Video Requested?
Request video is found when the unit info box is opened on the Maps tab. Click the video button, then Request Video.
A Date Field and Grid will now appear. Click on the field Date field to access the calendar and choose the desired day. Dates with no available video are not selectable. Blue highlights on the grid will indicate where any video was captured. Select the desired highlight to then choose the desired time stamp on the Timeline.
The Timeline will now show available video, with the Clip Preview field below. Clip Preview is used to review the footage before making the request in order. This helps to ensure that the correct footage is selected. Drag the black selector box to the desired position on the Timeline, then click the 'play' button for Clip Preview to watch the footage.
If Clip Preview confirms that the selector is in the desired position, press ‘Get Clip’ to make the request.
If Clip Preview is not visible, please Contact GPS Trackit.
Please be aware that the camera only records when the engine is running. A clip request cannot be submitted for a timestamp with no video available. The color coding on the Timeline will show when video is or is not available.
When the clip is ready, it’ll be sent to the Video tab for review and can be found in the Requested section.
Requests can also be made directly on the Video tab. Click on Video and Requested, then click the black plus (+) button in the upper left corner.
Use the filter on the right hand side to choose the vehicle in question. After choosing the vehicle a new field will appear to select a date.
Once the date has been entered, the grid and Clip Preview will appear as described above. Follow those instructions to select and request the desired clip(s).
All Requested Clips are available within the Video tab for 90 days once generated. To keep a clip past 90 days, it must be downloaded. The Download option is found in the lower right corner of the clip.
*Note: VidFleet One (non-AI) model cameras do not display the download button. To retain video past the 90 day expiration date, please utilize the VidFleet: Download Video instructions found here.
