Drivers are responsible for updating their Duty Statuses throughout their work shift. This is accomplished using the buttons seen here.
To change a status, tap the desired button. For example, switching from Off Duty to On-Duty. A pop-up will appear to confirm the change. If the wrong status has been selected this pop up will allow the change to be canceled before the records are affected. To confirm the change, press OK.
Whenever the change is related to the On-Duty status another pop-up will appear where a Remark can be added and/or confirmed. If the desired Remark is not listed it can be manually entered in the Other field.
If an Enter Missing Information pop up appears, this means that the Bluetooth connection between the ELD and the phone/tablet with the app has been disconnected. This connection is required for compliance.
Above the Status buttons, the next Possible Violation will be listed along with when this violation will occur. Possible Violations are calculated based on the current status and hours and can shift when statuses are changed.
Three graphs are visible above the Status buttons. These graphs track the Driven, On-Shift and On-Cycle hours that have been used and how much time is still available. The Driver will need to monitor these graphs to ensure that no Hours of Service violations take place.
Drivers are responsible for changing the status as needed. However, mistakes do happen. So there are back-ups built in, called Automatic Transitions, which apply in the following scenarios:
The first Automatic Transition would occur if the Driver is logged in and starts moving the vehicle without first selecting ‘Driving’ status. As soon as the vehicle hits 5 MPH, the status will switch to Driving, even if the current status is listed as either Off Duty, On-Duty or Sleeper. What won’t happen is the status automatically switching to Personal or Yard Moves. The software can tell the vehicle is moving but of course has no way to tell the reason for the movement, which is why the system won’t automatically transition to Personal Conveyance or Yard Move. For this reason, drivers needing to use the Personal and/or Yard Move options MUST select these options before moving the vehicle.
Note: If the Automatic Driving Immediately After Vehicle Moves box has been checked in Details, then the Automatic Transition will take place as soon as the movement occurs regardless of speed.
The other Automatic Transition occurs when the vehicle has been moving and comes to a halt for more than 5 minutes. A pop up warning will appear, then the system will change the status to On-Duty. Off Duty or Sleeper will not be automatically applied, as the software has no way of knowing why the vehicle stopped moving.
There is no flexibility regarding the timing. Once Drive Time, On-Shift Time, ect… have run out, the Driver must immediately go off duty to avoid an HOS violation. This also applies to Off Duty time such as Rest Breaks or Cycle resets. Leaving the Off Duty status too soon (even by a minute) will also result in violations.
