GPS Trackit offers Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as needed in the API section of the Account tab.
APIs are needed to bring applications together in order to perform a designed function built around sharing data and executing pre-defined processes. They work as the middleman, allowing developers to build new programmatic interactions between the various applications people and businesses use on a daily basis. API documentation can be found here.
API Keys are used to create this ‘middleman’. To create an API Key go to Account and then API Keys.
Click the plus (+) button in the upper left corner
Give the API Key a name.
The option exists to restrict the API Key by User, meaning the resulting data is limited by the Tags assigned as part of the User Permissions. If engaged, this option is limited to one User per API Key.
Press ‘Create’ to Save.
Once the API Key has been generated, copy and paste it to use where needed.
There is no limit to the number of API keys that can be generated. To remove a key, click the checkbox to the left, then the trashcan icon in the upper left corner.
API Keys are also available for ELD users. To generate, visit the Management section of the ELD Admin Portal.
Within Management, select the company from the drop-down menu.
Then click the Detail icon.
Finally, click the ‘Generate’ button next to the API key.
AEMP APIs compliant with international API standards are also available. For documentation regarding AEMP APIs please click here.
If an API isn’t a suitable solution, Webhooks are also available. Webhooks are a method of sending real-time data from one application to another. In this instance sending GPS Trackit data on to another application. This is an excellent option if constant information flow is desired.
Webhooks are located within Account>API.
To generate a new Webhook click the Plus (+) button in the upper left corner.
Every Webhook will require a Name and URL.
Once ‘Type’ is selected from the dropdown menu, further information will appear detailing the data which will be available.
The Webhook will be Active by default and can be deactivated as needed.
Headers can also be entered as needed using the Plus (+) button.
When complete, press ‘Save’.
