What is the Vicinity Tool?
The GPS Trackit Vicinity Tool allows users to define a geographic area of up to 1 mile and review activity within a 12 hour period to identify which tracked vehicles or equipment have been within that area.
Why is the Vicinity Tool Valuable?
Vicinity helps users identify which vehicles and equipment have been in specific locations, enhancing operational oversight and security. By revealing patterns, it leads to greater efficiency. The tool also boosts safety by detecting irregular or unauthorized movements and supports investigations by providing easy access to historical data, facilitating quicker dispute resolution.
How Does the Vicinity Tool Work?
Vicinity is found on the Maps tab, under the Map Utilities.
Begin by choosing a shape for the vicinity to search: Polygon, Circle or Square.
Next, position the map to show the desired location. The options are to enter an address, manually click on the map or select a Unit location. If using the Circle or Square options, the size of the searched area can be adjusted as needed. The size limit is 1 mile.
After entering the search area, the Tags dropdown is used to limit the search to certain unit categories.
Searches are limited to 12-hour periods. Start and End date are entered separately in case the desired time frame spans into two calendar days.
After pressing ‘Next,’ a list of units found within the defined area will appear.
For a unit to appear in the search results, it must have recorded at least one event, such as Ignition Off or Idle.
*Note: that the unit must have generated at least one event within the specified time frame to be included in the search results.
Search results will be displayed to the right-hand side. Each entry can be opened to view further detail.
To exit the Vicinity Tool, press the ‘back’ button.
